Lately, I've been thinking I should write down some of the things I run into that I enjoy. SO here goes:

1. Sweet Caroline on Glee

2. The ending bus scene in the movie Traitor (without spoiling it, rent it!)

3. Halloween and pumpkins

4. Twitter because of the nice people and the ability to interact with "stars" directly. Bonus: nobody rambles when you only get 140 characters to talk

5. My daughter's experience running track. She is really having fun!

6. My son's experience playing with superheroes like Spiderman.

7. Reruns of Las Vegas and Angel. One of the perks of being unemployed, though I'd rather be working.

8. Facebook - nice to be back in touch with people I no longer see or work with.

Job didn't pan out after all. Worked for two months and made $0 before I realized that it was more of a volunteer thing. So, back to looking. Oh well. Made some good contacts.

Well, it took awhile and I decided I absolutely hate interviewing, but I found a job. I took a position as a Regional Manager for a commission only sales oriented company that produces internet solutions for physician practices. We sell comprehensive web portals that allow patients to request online appointments, get physician referrals online, ask doctors questions, get Rx refills, pay bills online, download and fill out forms online (pre visit so there's less of a wait at the office), and a ton of other cool things. So, I work out of my home office and manage reps all over the country. I'm still hiring people and interviewing some almost every day. I cover Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York city, parts of Texas, Arkansas, Colorado and will most likely pick up some other areas before it's all done. So far, I really like it and I have 10 reps in place so far (with about 8 more to hire). When the sales start coming in (and they already have a little), it will be far more lucrative than what I did before. Just have to get there since I've worked for a few weeks so far and won't get any pay until at least next month. But, I wanted my few readers that I have left to hear the good news. I've been very busy with my job search and have used LinkedIn.com, Facebook and other sites to network as I was looking. I'm most amazed at how rude people can be that are in the hiring position and I hope to not be that way. I went through the hiring process with two companies over a period of almost 3 months and for one - had to find out by emailing someone that they had gone with someone else - and for the second, I'm still waiting (a month after they told me they'd call me the next day). SOOO glad the search is over. Thanks for all the support along the way.

One of my favorite parts of the convention is talking to the artists, writers and tv/movie people. This time I met Luciana Carro, a very cool lady who had a nice role as Kat in Battlestar Galactica. She was also in Everwood, Doctor Doolittle 3, and a bunch of other stuff. I met James Hampton, who played Caretaker in the original "The Longest Yard". He was the father in Teen Wolf and played in Slingblade and F Troop. I met Phillip Morris, who plays Martian Manhunter in Smallville and played Jackie Chiles on Seinfeld (among many other roles). Lou Ferrigno and Margot Kidder were there, too, but I didn't speak with them.

This is from last month's race. My cousin and I ran and finished. We hope to do it again next January.

A few updates: still unemployed. Actually, I'm still on the payroll at my company but looking for a new job. I get my severance in May so my goal is to find something by summer. We'll see how that goes. Not as many pharmaceutical sales jobs as there used to be.

I bought my first car in over 20 years. I've had a company car for over 16 years and didn't have to deal with car crap. My company made it easy by letting me get my company car for a decent price. Just got the registration and new license plate today...

Yesterday (thursday) was my birthday. I took the day off and went to Disney parks. I even took the backstage tour at The Land at Epcot. I always wanted to so I just did it (solo). Here's a Mickey pumpkin grown in a shaper to look like our favorite mouse. Today, I find out if I have a job still. 12+ years with the same company so at least the severance will be good if/when I get cut. I'll keep you posted...

I saw these near my daughter's school. They've been working on a road, expanding it from 2 to 4 lanes. Adding the (sewer?) pipes must be one of the final steps before final paving. Today, I found a new playground not far from my daughter's Sunday School. After dropping her off, my son and I enjoyed this friendly dinosaur. He spontaneously put his hand in its mouth. I missed it the first time and asked him to repeat the act. This is the result. I like his playful expression. He had a good time and I think I helped tire him out enough so that he napped well today. By the way, I'm still very sore from the half marathon, but recovering well.

This was good since we were getting up at 3:30am for the race.

Woke up at 3:30am to get to the starting point at 4:30am. Ran with my cousin from S. Florida. Both of us out of shape but determined to finish the 13.1 mile race. It certainly helped to have someone to run with. We finished it and only walked a minimal amount. The time wasn't great, but our goal was to be able to walk after the race. And we were pretty much able to do that (with some discomfort, of course). I feel pretty good about it and we've already talked about doing it again next year.

Today, I stopped by the Disney Wide World of Sports near the theme parks to pick up my number for the Disney 1/2 Marathon that I'm running on Saturday morning with my cousin. Actually, running is probably the wrong word. I'll be the one jogging slowly and walking fast. I think there's around 15,000 people doing the half marathon. Should be interesting for someone like me that's not in peak shape (understatement). I'll be taking my wife's new camera with me for some action shots to post Saturday. Wish me luck!

In Florida, they say if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it'll change. This is a shot of the sky near the coast of Melbourne, FL. The winds had picked up and it had already started to rain a little (see the left side of the photo). It didn't rain much, though it looked much worse than some of the tropical storm weather I've seen. As I drove back to Orlando, blue skies with a some clouds. Weird weather is the norm here.

I'm a sales rep and part of my territory is on the coast of Florida. I enjoy the view from the offices I go to, often seeing dolphin, manatee, palm trees. One of the offices is right next to a small island airport. I always get the coolest view of the airplanes taking off or landing. Years ago, when I was new to this company and living in the Cleveland area, one of my customers took me up in a plane like this for a few hours. It was the most interesting experience. Like a flying lawn mower without radar. He asked me a few times to look for "traffic" as I was helping him go in for a landing. And he was serious...

Almost forgot to include Chewbacca, also known as Chewie. He's our 10 year old schnauzer. He's extremely good with our kids. He knows to be nice to them and take some abuse - and that he can take out his aggression on me. He's also an Ohio State fan (as you can see from his bandanna). All in all, a good dog (in need of grooming). We got Chewie first, thinking if he survived - maybe we could handle kids. He survived and we had a few kids...So the experiment worked out, I suppose.

I voted on Friday, since we can vote early in Florida. Took me close to two hours from start to finish. It was raining for the first half hour (no umbrella - foolish me). It was cool to see so many voters especially many first timers since we are near a major college (University of Central Florida). They were driving van loads of kids to vote since many of them don't have cars. Glad it's over with since I don't enjoy lines and usually avoid them...It'll be nice when the television ads are gone, too.

Last weekend, we took the kids to Sea World. They have daytime trick or treating and lots of candy. They even have mini bananas (real fruit)! They had fun but we ran of time and will go back before Halloween...

This is what I see on my drive to work when I drive to the coast. My commute (every other week) is about an hour. Not so bad with this view. There's a bit of a mist off the ground since it was "cool" at about 64 degrees. Pretty cool, eh?
